About Antisocial Norm

A person, not a personal brand.

I write to clarify things, build systems that expose their assumptions and make useful work without turning myself into a product.

Papercraft interpretation of Norm standing on a paper surfacePersonal, imperfect,
accountable.

I am Norm. I am interested in systems, language, ethics and power - particularly the ordinary decisions that determine who can act, who must wait and whose account is treated as credible.

My practical experience includes building and maintaining digital systems, documenting processes and making complicated work easier to follow. This site does not turn that experience into a list of invented credentials or a sales pitch.

Writing is one of the ways I find out what I think. It lets me separate what happened from what I inferred, notice where a phrase is doing too much work and leave uncertainty visible without making it vague.

I prefer precision to polish when the two conflict. Polish can make an assumption look finished. Precision gives somebody else a chance to inspect it.

01

Systems

The rules, defaults, permissions and handovers that shape what people can actually do.

02

Language

The words that reveal a distinction, conceal a decision or make uncertainty usable.

03

Power

Who gets to decide, who carries the consequence and whether the arrangement can be questioned.
